Overview

Fosse Shopping Park was originally built in 1989 near Leicester and is one of the largest retail parks in the country.  It is currently owned and managed by The Crown Estates.  In April 2021, two extensions to the original development, (Fosse Park West and the Food Central zone) were opened to the public.

They provide new modern additions to the retail destination and when The Crown Estate and Momentum Wayshowing reached out to us to provide the new signage required for visitors looking to find their way in and around the new areas, we were delighted to take on the challenge.

Greener Wayfinding

They wanted to remove their reliance on paper maps and replace with a greener and more cost effective, digital alternative to wayfinding.  As well as the usual practical element of wayfinding maps, they wanted us to provide a dynamic solution where they would be able to remotely update the digital maps whenever retailers changed location.

They also wanted to explore using digital signage as advertising space for retailers to promote their brands which in turn would provide Crown Estates with a commercial opportunity to rent advertising space to tenants as part of their contracts, meaning that initial cost of the digital totems would effectively pay for themselves in the long term.

Design Elements

Along with the digital package we manufactured and installed some of the largest tenant totems in the UK.  4 super-sized totems measuring 10 metres high by 3 metres wide acting as the primary identification point of the venue from distance by car.

Additionally, we manufactured and installed the unique ‘Food Central’ feature signs and ‘Shop Eat Enjoy’ illuminated letters along with many other internal and external wayfinding signs, which were both modern, quirky and in keeping with the look and feel of the park.

 

Unique Design meets Practicality

Merson Digital is a 50-50 joint venture between Merson Signs, the industry leader in traditional signage and inurface media who are the industry leader in digital, creating the best digital signage business in the country.  And it was for that reason that we were the natural choice when Crown Estates wanted to find a partner who could not only design, manufacture and install digital solutions but could also use their creativity to produce some eye-catching static signage too.  The result was a range of bespoke signs, a mix of digital and analogue which provided seamless navigation from the outdoor to the indoor zones.
