Overview

TK Maxx, the subsidiary of American retailer TJX, opened its first store in the UK in 1994 and now has around 350 branches across the country. The chain, which offers designer brands at discounted prices, also introduced their Homesense stores (specialising in homeware) to the UK market over 10 tears ago and now have around 80 stores.

For the past 15 years we have been supporting both brands with their internal and external store signage requirements, most recently completing a new project at TK Maxx in Wakefield.

Agility

This store was part of the TJX Group’s new store programme and on this occasion, we were required to step in at short notice. As we have been working on both new store & refresh programmes for TK Maxx and Homesense stores for many years, we were able to use our understanding to react quickly and navigate our way around client requirements. Our remit was to provide a complete package of new internal & external signage throughout the site, including branding feature signs, bulkhead signs, store navigation signs, window vinyls & manifestations and building & floor identifiers.  TK Maxx are known for their punchy advertising and instantly recognisable store branding so these projects are something the whole team relishes.

TK Maxx Wakefield

It's all about the brand

Although much of the signage was standard and we have many years’ experience in producing it, there were a number of bespoke signs that required technical consultations with our design, production and installation teams, as well as with the client. We were challenged to produce a customised set of face & halo illuminated letters to the fully glazed shopfront & an LED illuminated keyline around the perimeter of the shopfront, which would entice passers by to walk through the entrance.

Despite initial concerns with reduced lead times, our project management team set about the task to do what they do best. As time was of the essence with this project, the main challenges included design turnaround, tight production schedules whilst maintaining the high quality of signs and ensuring installation was carried out efficiently.  It was evident that the project had been a success and had ran smoothly when the positive feedback from the client included comments on the ‘excellent quality’ of the signage, ‘effective communication’ and the ‘strict adherence to all programme requirements’ we displayed throughout the project with special thanks from the AVP Store Design team on a job well done.
