Overview

MediaCityUK, Salford is a 200-acre mixed use property development in the banks of the Manchester Ship canal in Salford and Trafford. Developed by Peel Media and best known for housing the BBC, it is also home to multiple media organisations as well as the University of Salford.

MediaCityUK had previously invested in a double-sided LED screen in 2012 to create first impressions for visitors to the site. However, due to high failure rates they were looking to upgrade to a display of a higher and more reliable standard, which could be used for showcasing events, content, and advertising.

Trust Us; Trust Our Products

Reliability and longevity of an LED product was key for MediaCityUK. As they looked to upgrade solutions, they approached us as industry leaders and an organisation they could depend on to deliver results. MediaCityUK were looking for an end-to-end digital service partner who could manage the project from deconstruction and removal, through to production and technical support after installation and we were the natural choice.

We also removed the existing signage and cladding as part of our service offering and installed new cladding leading to a clean modern look. Working with our design and manufacturing team allowed MediaCityUK to modernise the structure whilst retaining the brand, seamlessly integrating into the local environment.

Bespoke Solutions

We designed, manufactured, and installed a double-sided lighthouse LED display, communications, and media player for the development. Given its outdoor location, the screen, metalwork, and cladding had to be as durable as possible. Each screen used high bright LEDs to ensure the content could be seen clearly, regardless of exposure to the elements. The screen was fitted in fully weatherproof casing to cope with any adverse weather conditions and were also designed to be incredibly robust and sturdy.

Given the previous problems the client had experienced, we ensured that the solutions provided would exceed their expectations. Rigorous testing of the product was done to ensure it met all expected requirements and was carried out to the highest standard.

MediaCityUK

Adaptable Content

The ability to easily change screen content and turn off the screen when necessary was essential. Given its prime location in the centre of MediaCityUK, the screen is multipurpose, designed for self-promotion, temporary events, sports, and entertainment screenings. Having the ability to provide a live signal and audio solution was also key.

The content for the large MediaCityUK screen is controlled with an easily accessible CMS to ensure smooth running of the content. Managing content this way means the screen can be easily updated from a central hub.

MediaCityUK

Hardware

This is another example of a project that has benefited from our adaptability and innovative thinking. Our skilled in-house team were able to quickly design, customise, and build the hardware needed for MediaCityUK, including bespoke encasing metalwork, and cladding to meet the technical specifications required.
