Overview

When Tesco rolled out their upgrade programme for stores that needed a bit of a facelift, they chose us to support them with their signage.

This ongoing project involves introducing new signs and other decorations to stores which have not had a full refurbishment for a number of years and are not due to have one for quite some time. The scheme provides a stop-gap to keep the Tesco brand fresh and enhance the customer shopping experience.

We initially won this project as part of a competitive tender based on price, quality, lead-times, capacity, and the fact that we cover all geographical areas in the UK.

Tesco Signage

Sole Supplier

The project originally went to tender in Summer 2019 and we were successfully awarded sole supplier status for the signage aspects of the work stream. The alignment projects we carry out across the UK involve responsibility for scoping the plans and creating the design documents. This is in addition to the usual survey, design, manufacture and installation services we normally provide.

After doing a deep dive into Tesco’s requirements, we created the design documentation at the front end of the process. Working alongside main contractor, Optimal FM, the first phase got underway in late 2019 and included 3 trial stores followed by 30 main stores. The works were deemed a huge success by Tesco and they were delighted with the improved appearance.

As principal contractor, we have continued to provide a full turnkey service and have remained sole supplier for all signage – a testament to our performance, quality of work and getting it right first time.

Principal Contractor

A second phase of 28 stores was then planned for late 2021. As Tesco were so happy with the work in phase 1, not only did we retain sole signage supplier status but were also asked to bid for the Principal Contractor works.  This involved us being responsible for site management, CDM (construction design and management), painting & decorating, minor electrical works and groundworks. We were subsequently awarded 14 out of 28 stores as Principal Contractor and the benefits of the PC team working in collaboration with our signage installation team were clear to see for Tesco.

Phase 3 is now currently underway, and we continue to deliver the signage for all stores as well as working as Principal Contractor on 12 out of the 18 stores. With a further phase due to start in early 2022, this will allow us to deliver a full end to end service, including surveys, scoping, design document creation, design, manufacture, installation and principal contractor works.
