State-of-the-Art Learning Hub for the University of Strathclyde
CGL are delighted to announce that they have won the contract to manufacture and supply the cladding for the University of Strathclyde’s Colville Building. In 2020, the newly refurbed Colville Building will open its doors to students, staff and visitors, welcoming them into a new state-of-the-art teaching and learning hub.
As Scotland’s third largest university, Strathclyde has a fantastic reputation, enjoying accolades such as University of the Year in 2012 and Entrepreneurial University of the year 2013. With the desire to keep driving forward as one of the UK’s top universities, there are exciting times ahead for Strathclyde. This £60m refurbishment forms part of a wider £650m transformation of the campus, set to include a new Centre for Sports, Health and Wellbeing, as well as the addition of research and innovation hubs that will better connect Strathclyde with high-tech industry and business.
CGL Facades were awarded the contract from Hansen Facades who will be installing around 1200m2 of our Powder coated aluminium Rainscreen hook on system. This system was chosen not only because its diverse range of finishes meant we could create the perfect match for the architects’ vision, but also because it could be designed to suit the high wind load required on the building.
BDP, the architects for the project, have created a design for a striking new building that will deliver both a flexible and stimulating learning environment. This is supported further by the collaborative approach with the wider university community, who have enjoyed input into how to make this new facility an exciting and interactive learning hub.
We are delighted to continue to add to our portfolio of educational building projects, particularly, as research continues to present a link between improving educational spaces with more effective learning.
We look forward to sharing more progress on this project soon.
