CGL's latest project win; The Mint Building, Edinburgh
CGL Facades are thrilled to announce that they have won the contract to manufacture and supply their Zinc Rainscreen Cassette System for the exclusive Mint Building in Edinburgh.

The Mint Building is a deluxe 60,000 sq ft office development within The Registers stretching over eight floors. It boasts an impressive double height reception area and two penthouse floors that offer breathtaking views across Edinburgh, Fife and the Lothians. Located in the heart of Edinburgh, adjacent to St Andrew Square, The Mint Building prides itself on its unrivalled connectivity to the whole of the city as well as the rest of the UK. It’s situated only a minutes’ walk from Princes Street, Waverley Station, St Andrew Square Bus Station and the tram network.

CGL were awarded the contact from Hansen Facades who will be installing 750 sq. meters of our Zinc Rainscreen cladding onto the two penthouse floors of the building. Our Rainscreen Cassette System has been designed to protect the structural backing of the wall against wind and solar damage, and, because it allows air movement around each panel, water penetration to the inner wall is minimised.

There are considerable benefits to using zinc as a cladding material, as well as being resistant to UV rays and corrosion, this weatherproof surface can endure for many decades without degradation. Zinc’s relatively low melting point makes it an energy-efficient material to work with, and its durability also enhances the buildings environmental credentials which was a key consideration for Hoskins Architects when deciding on the cladding material for this project.
